President Marcos Welcomes Legitimate Oppositionists in Government

Amid the partial and unofficial midterm election results, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has expressed his willingness to work with “legitimate oppositionists” while standing firm against those who obstruct government efforts. This stance was clarified by Malacañang on Wednesday, emphasizing a focus on unity and progress.

At a recent press briefing, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro addressed questions on how the President’s legislative agenda might be affected by the expected victory of six administration-backed candidates. She highlighted that the President anticipates all elected leaders to prioritize the public’s needs.

Expecting Cooperation from Legitimate Oppositionists

Castro stated that the administration welcomes the presence of legitimate oppositionists who genuinely seek to serve the Filipino people. However, the government will resist those who merely act as obstructionists driven by self-interest.

(Now that people have elected our next leaders, our President expects that each of them will address the needs of the public. Their work is for the country, for our countrymen and not for the interest of some, so whatever their ‘color’ is, the President welcomes them to unite and address the problems and solve the needs of the people.)

Distinguishing Legitimate Opposition from Obstructionists

Furthermore, Castro clarified the administration’s position on opposition figures. While legitimate oppositionists challenge the government to improve for the welfare of Filipinos, obstructionists hinder progress by focusing on personal gain.

(The administration expects the presence of legitimate oppositionists but will fight obstructionists who will pretend to be oppositionist, obstructionist who only thinks of their own welfare.)

(If we say legitimate oppositionist, they fight for the country and for the interest of the citizens, not their own interest. The obstructionist only destroy and they do not see any good with what the government is doing. They only want to advance their own interest.)

President Marcos Calls for Unity and Shared Responsibility

On Tuesday, President Marcos extended an invitation to all newly elected leaders to collaborate, regardless of their political affiliations. He emphasized that governance requires unity and collective effort to serve the nation’s best interests.

The President also thanked Filipinos for participating in the 2025 midterm elections, noting that the democratic process was peaceful, orderly, and dignified. This peaceful exercise of the right to vote signals a renewal of democracy in the country.
