Proving That Heart Still Has a Place in Public Service: Shamcey’s Resilience

Despite not winning a seat as a Pasig councilor, Shamcey Supsup-Lee remains strong and optimistic. In a heartfelt Instagram post, she boldly stated, “We have already won because we never lost who we are.” This powerful message highlights her commitment to values over victory.

Shamcey emphasized that throughout her political journey, she stood firm on her principles. “In every step of this journey, we chose integrity over shortcuts, truth over convenience, and compassion over division,” she shared. Her campaign was never just about a title but about proving that heart still has a place in public service.

Upholding Integrity and Compassion in Politics

For Shamcey, dignity, honesty, and a sincere heart matter most in serving the community. Even though she didn’t secure a win, she considers her campaign a success because she stayed true to these values. “We stood firm in our principles, spoke up for what we believed in, and remained grounded in purpose. This was never just about a position; it was about proving that dignity, honesty, and heart still have a place in public service,” she wrote.

She also took the time to thank her supporters and those who stood by her side throughout the campaign. “Thank you for walking with me,” she expressed, showing gratitude for the shared journey.

Encouragement from Fellow Leaders

Among the first to congratulate her was fellow beauty queen MJ Lastimosa. She praised Shamcey’s example and leadership, saying, “You’ve always been a great example, a leader, and an inspiration to many.” MJ also expressed hope for Shamcey’s future in public service: “I can’t wait for the day when they finally give you the chance to lead, and for them to see what you’re truly capable of.”

She added, “Congratulations for trying and wanting to offer your whole self to your community.” This recognition highlights the respect and admiration Shamcey has earned despite the election outcome.

Election Results and Political Challenges

Shamcey finished seventh in the Pasig councilor race with 32,399 votes. She initially ran under Sarah Discaya’s group but later withdrew following a controversy involving their congressional candidate, Christian “Ian” Sia. Sia’s controversial and sexist remarks led to his disqualification by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), prompting Shamcey to distance herself from the group.

Even in the face of political setbacks, Shamcey’s message remains clear: proving that heart still has a place in public service is the true victory.
