Puppy Faces Severe Injury After Brutal Attack
A puppy is now at risk of losing a leg after being violently slammed to the ground by a drunk man in Barangay Santolan, Pasig City. The shocking abuse was captured on video, revealing the suspect—a cousin of the dog’s owner—committing the act.
Witnesses recalled that the intoxicated man caused a disturbance in the neighborhood before assaulting the puppy. He reportedly struck the dog multiple times before violently chasing and hitting it with a slipper.
“Tapos po, sabi niya, ‘Ay nangangagat ka?!’ Bigla niya pong pinaghahabol po ng tsinelas, hinampas hampas niya po. Sinipa niya pa po yun e,” shared “Riri,” the owner of the puppy named Kikiam.
After the attack, the puppy was seen crying and limping, seeking refuge in a corner, clearly in pain. The suspect later went to the barangay hall to report that the puppy had bitten him, but officials found no visible bite marks.
Medical Evaluation and Legal Action
Kikiam was immediately taken to a veterinarian who diagnosed a bone fracture. The injury is so severe that if the puppy does not heal properly with medication, amputation of the affected leg may be necessary.
“Kapag ‘di daw gumaling, nakuha sa gamot, baka putulin yung isang paa niya kasi may crack sa may buto,” said Riri, expressing concern over the puppy’s condition.
The barangay summoned the suspect, a tricycle driver, but he has since gone into hiding. Meanwhile, Riri plans to file legal charges against him for the attack.
Animal Welfare Group Condemns Attack
The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) strongly condemned the incident, labeling it as a clear act of cruelty prohibited under the Animal Welfare Act.
“Ito ay clearly acts of cruelty. Ito ‘yung exact act na ipinagbabawal ng Animal Welfare Act,” said PAWS executive director Anna Cabrera.
Under the law, those found guilty of animal cruelty can face up to two years of imprisonment. PAWS has urged the suspect to surrender immediately to the authorities to face the charges.
This heartbreaking case highlights the urgent need to protect vulnerable animals from abuse. For more updates on animal welfare, visit Filipinokami.com.
