QCPD Investigates Viral Post on Cops Extorting Money from PWD
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has initiated a thorough investigation following a viral post accusing two police officers of extorting money from a delivery driver who is a person with a disability (PWD). This incident has sparked public concern and calls for accountability.
Officials reported that the QCPD has already obtained a copy of the barangay blotter documenting the event and is carefully reviewing the complainant’s allegations. The exact four word keyphrase “cops extorting money from PWD” is central to the ongoing inquiry.
Officers Reassigned Pending Investigation
The QCPD stated that the officers implicated will be temporarily reassigned to the District Personnel Holding and Accounting Section. Their case will be forwarded to the Prosecutors’ Office for verification to determine any possible involvement related to the complaint.
Authorities emphasized that if the accusations prove to be false or malicious, legal action will be pursued, including the potential filing of a cyber libel case against those responsible for spreading misinformation.
Driver’s Account of the Incident
According to the viral video shared over the weekend, delivery driver Piolo Alonzo recounted his experience. He said that on the night of August 8 at around 10:35 p.m., while in Quezon City, two police officers stopped him as he was about to buy medicine after finishing his work shift.
Alonzo claimed that one officer instructed him to park in a dark area. Instead, he parked near a rice stall. The policemen then allegedly frisked him and confiscated his bag for inspection.
Search and Confiscation Details
“They didn’t find anything after checking my bag and motorcycle. They made me get off, then searched my motorcycle compartment, but still found nothing,” Alonzo said in Filipino.
He added that one officer asked, “Where is your shabu?” to which he replied, “Sir, I don’t have any. I just got home from a trip.” Despite showing proof of his delivery app, the officers reportedly did not believe him.
After a second search of his motorcycle compartment yielded no evidence, the two police officers allegedly took P3,000 in cash from him.
Driver’s Plea for Justice
“Then they told me, ‘Your money is right there, check it first,’ but they made me leave before I could check because I was trembling and didn’t know what to do. When I got to Muñoz, I was confused, and when I looked in my bag, only a whole P100 bill and coins were left,” Alonzo shared.
He expressed fear that the officers might repeat the act or plant illegal substances on him. “I hope you can help me. I’m afraid they might do it again or plant drugs on me. I am a PWD just trying to earn an honest living,” he added.
QCPD Commits to Transparency
Community members and local leaders noted the importance of a transparent investigation into allegations that involve abuses of power, especially against vulnerable groups like persons with disabilities.
Authorities have assured the public that they are taking the incident seriously and will ensure justice is served based on factual findings.
