Man Arrested in Quezon City Businesswoman Shooting
Authorities arrested a 31-year-old suspect in connection with the shooting of a 50-year-old businesswoman in Quezon City, police sources said. The arrest took place late Thursday afternoon at a residence in Barangay Commonwealth. The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) confirmed the suspect’s identity as Jerald.
This case highlights ongoing concerns about public safety in the area, especially following a violent incident that shocked the community.
Details of the Shooting Incident
The shooting occurred on Monday evening along Steeve Street near Commonwealth Market, Barangay Commonwealth. According to police reports, the victim and Jerald were walking together when the suspect suddenly pulled out a firearm. He fired two shots at the victim’s head, resulting in her immediate death.
Following the attack, Jerald fled the scene, leaving residents in shock. However, investigators used closed-circuit television footage to trace the suspect’s movements, which led to his capture at a nearby home in the same barangay.
Evidence and Charges
During the arrest, authorities recovered a caliber .40 pistol loaded with ten live rounds. When asked, Jerald presented an expired license and permit to carry firearms, which violated Republic Act 10591, the Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Currently, Jerald remains in police custody as the case moves forward to the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office. He faces charges of murder and illegal possession of firearms. The QCPD also plans to request the Firearms and Explosives Office to revoke any firearms registration under his name.
