Gun Battle in Quezon Claims Suspect’s Life Early Friday
LUCENA CITY — In a dramatic police operation early Friday, June 20, a wanted felon involved in the killing of a former Quezon town vice mayor in 2022 lost his life during a gunfight in Tayabas City. The Quezon police confirmed the incident in a report released Saturday, June 21.
Authorities, armed with an arrest warrant, raided the residence of a 52-year-old man known only as “Orlando” in Barangay Malao-a at around 5 a.m. The suspect immediately recognized the presence of law enforcement officers. Instead of surrendering, he opened fire but failed to hit any officers.
Suspect Fires First, Police Return Fire
The police returned fire promptly, hitting Orlando with several gunshots. He was rushed to Tayabas Community Hospital but tragically died en route. Officers recovered a loaded Norinco .45-caliber pistol from the suspect, still containing six bullets.
Connection to Vice Mayor Killing Confirmed
Local sources said Orlando was a prime suspect in the murder of former Vice Mayor Danilo Amat of Dolores town. The killing took place on July 22, 2022, in San Pablo City, Laguna. Amat, who served as vice mayor from 2019 to 2022, was fatally shot multiple times while driving his vehicle.
Three of Amat’s former bodyguards, including Orlando, faced murder charges after CCTV footage near the crime scene identified them as the assailants. Authorities continue to investigate the case as they strengthen efforts to bring justice.
