Quezon Province Classes Suspended Due to Crising
LUCENA CITY — Classes in public and private schools across Quezon province, from kindergarten to grade 12, were suspended on Friday because of severe weather caused by Tropical Storm Crising and the southwest monsoon, locally called “habagat.” This suspension aims to ensure the safety of students amid the ongoing storm.
Governor Angelina Tan issued the class suspension order on Thursday, sharing the announcement through official provincial government social media channels. “The suspension of college-level classes and work is left to the discretion of their respective heads. Please stay tuned for further announcements from [the national weather agency] regarding the weather situation,” her directive stated in Filipino.
Local Government Actions and Sea Travel Suspension
The Lucena City government also declared a separate suspension of face-to-face classes on Friday for all levels, including alternative learning systems in both public and private schools. The decision was posted on the Lucena Public Information Office’s Facebook page, which also noted that college-level class suspensions remain at the discretion of school authorities.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard in northern Quezon has suspended all sea travel for vessels bound for the Polillo Islands in the Pacific Ocean due to rough sea conditions. The suspension will remain until the weather improves, with small sea craft allowed to resume travel once the national weather service forecasts safer conditions.
Community Urged to Stay Updated
Local leaders encourage residents to monitor updates from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration to stay informed about the storm’s progress and any changes to safety advisories. These measures reflect the authorities’ commitment to public safety during Tropical Storm Crising and the habagat season.
