Many devotees flocked as Quiapo Church conducted a procession of the image of Jesus Nazareno in Manila in observance of Good Friday.
Quiapo Church said the Good Friday procession started around 12 midnight.
The Manila Police District (MPD) said that while no untoward incidents have been reported so far, some devotees sought medical assistance after suffering from headache, hypertension, dizziness, among others.
“Wala tayong naitatala at nagpapasalamat naman tayo na wala pa tayong naitatala pa na kaganapang pumukaw sa aming kamalayan,” MPD spokesperson Police Major Phillip Ines said.
(We have not recorded anything and we are grateful that we have not recorded any events that have caught our attention.)
“Meron lang tayo dito yung mga binigyan ng medical attention pero mga minor na mga medical attention katulad ng sumakit ang ulo, may hypertension, nahilo kasi talaga hindi natin maiiwasan dahil sa dami rin ng kababayan natin na pumunta rito,” he added.
(We only have devotees who received minor medical attention due to headache, hypertension, and dizziness because we really cannot avoid it as many people came here.)
At Quiapo Church, some devotees carrying replicas were waiting for the return of the image of Jesus Nazareno.
Litters were observed around Quezon Boulevard.
Meanwhile, Siete Palabras or meditation on the seven last words of Jesus Christ is set to be held at 12 noon, according to Quiapo Church.
The Veneration of the Cross or kissing of the cross is set to be conducted at 3 a.m.
After this, Santo Entierro or the procession of the burial of Jesus Christ will be held at 5 p.m. with the image of Mater Dolorosa and San Juan Apostol.
According to the MPD, around 12,000 police personnel and force multipliers from different agencies and Quiapo Church are deployed to secure the Good Friday activities in the area. — RSJ, GMA Intgerated News
