Rain Expected in Northern Luzon Amid Southwest Monsoon
MANILA, Philippines — Rain is expected in parts of extreme Northern Luzon while the rest of the country will enjoy fair weather on Sunday, as the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, continues to influence the weather patterns, sources said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecasted that the habagat will affect the Batanes area, bringing scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. This weather system is responsible for the overcast skies and wet conditions in the northernmost part of Luzon.
Fair Weather Dominates Most of the Philippines
Aside from Northern Luzon, most regions in the country will experience little to no cloud cover. “In the rest of the country, you’ll see that there is hardly any cloud cover over much of the archipelago. Because of this, generally fair and slightly hot weather is expected across most parts of the country today,” Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina explained.
Despite the overall fair weather, isolated rain showers accompanied by lightning and thunder may still occur in some areas. Residents are advised to stay alert to sudden weather changes, especially in the afternoon hours.
Low Risk of Tropical Cyclone Formation
Currently, there are no low-pressure areas detected within or near the Philippine territory. “Based on our data, the chance of a tropical cyclone forming is still low, at least in the next two to three days,” Badrina added, reassuring the public of minimal storm threats during this period.
Furthermore, no gale warnings have been issued for any of the country’s seaboards, indicating relatively calm sea conditions. Fishermen and coastal communities can expect safe marine conditions but should always monitor updates.
