Rain to Affect Most PH Areas on June 20 Due to Easterlies
MANILA, Philippines — Rain showers are expected to hit most parts of the Philippines on June 20, driven by the easterlies and the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), local weather officials said. This widespread rain will impact communities across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported early Friday that the easterlies, warm winds flowing from the Pacific Ocean, continue to influence Luzon’s weather. Meanwhile, the ITCZ, a convergence area where northern and southern hemisphere winds meet, remains active over the Visayas and Mindanao.
Heavy Rain in Luzon Due to Easterlies
Weather expert Benison Estareja noted that in Luzon, provinces like Aurora and Quezon face the highest likelihood of rain this morning because of the easterlies. Surrounding areas including Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, and Camarines Norte will also experience rain showers.
Metro Manila and other Luzon regions should expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms developing throughout the day.
Cloudy Skies and Thunderstorms in Visayas
The ITCZ is forecasted to bring cloudy weather and a strong chance of localized thunderstorms in Palawan, Western Visayas, and the Negros Island Region. Afternoon to evening will likely see isolated rain showers and thunderstorms persisting across much of the Visayas.
Mindanao Faces Morning to Evening Rain
In Mindanao, heavy rain is expected starting early morning in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Region, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Sarangani, and Sultan Kudarat due to the ITCZ. Other areas across Mindanao will also see a high chance of rain from afternoon until evening.
Officials emphasize that no typhoons or low-pressure areas are currently monitored inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, providing some relief from stronger storms.
