Rain to Persist Across PH Amid Southwest Monsoon
Rain showers are set to continue across the Philippines on Tuesday due to the southwest monsoon, commonly called habagat, and a low-pressure area (LPA) within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), local weather authorities said. This weather pattern will bring widespread rain to many regions, affecting daily life and travel.
According to sources, the habagat will mainly impact most parts of Luzon, especially the western zones such as the Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Bataan. These areas should prepare for persistent rains and possible flooding.
Low-Pressure Area Brings More Rain to Northern and Central Philippines
A trough associated with an LPA east of Calayan, Cagayan, is already causing cloudy skies and rain showers in the Cagayan Valley. The eastern part of Calayan, as well as the Bicol Region and Mimaropa provinces—including Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan—will also experience wet conditions.
Visayas and Mindanao Forecast
Many areas in the Visayas will face cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms because of the southwest monsoon. The western Visayas and Negros Island region are particularly vulnerable to this weather.
Meanwhile, parts of Mindanao such as the Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, Davao Region, and Soccsksargen can expect cloudy skies with a high chance of rain. Other areas in Mindanao will mostly have fair weather, but isolated showers and thunderstorms may still occur from afternoon to evening.
Monitoring Tropical Disturbances
Authorities are closely watching two low-pressure areas within the PAR. It is possible that one could develop into a tropical depression by Wednesday, July 23. Residents are advised to stay alert and monitor updates to prepare for any worsening weather conditions.
