Widespread Rain Expected Across Philippines
Residents across the Philippines should prepare for continued rain and overcast skies in Luzon, parts of Visayas, and Mindanao this Wednesday. The persistent wet weather is due to a low-pressure area (LPA) combined with the southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat, sources said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported that the LPA is located approximately 350 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora. It is forecasted to influence weather conditions over Northern and Central Luzon significantly.
Impact of the Low-Pressure Area on Luzon
Weather specialist Ana Clauren-Jorda explained, “Even though it is currently just a LPA, it is expected to bring scattered rain showers, lightning, and thunder over the eastern parts of Northern and Central Luzon.” She added, “It is expected to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms to the Cagayan Valley area.”
Habagat Brings Rain to Central and Southern Luzon
The southwest monsoon or habagat will mainly affect the central and southern regions of Luzon. Areas like Metro Manila, Calabarzon, and the Bicol Region can expect scattered rain showers and thunderstorms throughout the day.
Meanwhile, the habagat will continue to cause rain and cloudy conditions over Palawan, Western Visayas, and the Zamboanga Peninsula, according to local forecasters.
Weather Outlook for Visayas and Mindanao
In contrast, most parts of Visayas and Mindanao will experience generally fair weather. However, there remains a chance of thunderstorms developing in the afternoon and evening hours.
Citizens are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and take necessary precautions, especially in areas prone to flooding and landslides during heavy rains.
