Rain to Prevail Over Most Parts of PH Monday
MANILA — Rain will prevail over most parts of the Philippines this Monday, driven by the southwest monsoon, locally called habagat, according to weather authorities. The habagat is expected to bring overcast skies and scattered showers to many regions.
The Philippine weather bureau reported that the southwest monsoon will affect western Southern Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao, causing widespread rains. This weather pattern, known locally as the habagat, often leads to increased moisture and precipitation across the country.
Widespread Showers Across Regions
Weather expert Daniel James Villamil explained, “Satellite images confirm the persistent presence of the southwest monsoon throughout the country. It will cause cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over western Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.”
He added, “Meanwhile, Metro Manila and other areas will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to thunderstorms.”
Currently, no low-pressure area (LPA) is being monitored either inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. However, cloud clusters spotted over the eastern Visayas and Mindanao could develop into an LPA in the coming days.
Thunderstorm Advisories and Safety Measures
Villamil also noted that thunderstorm warnings are in effect for parts of Central and Southern Luzon, including Zambales, Bataan, and some areas in Quezon province. Residents in these areas should stay alert for sudden weather changes and possible heavy rains.
Fortunately, no gale warnings have been issued for any of the country’s coasts, allowing seafarers to plan their activities with caution but without immediate concern.
