Rainfall Warnings Issued for Several Luzon Areas

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to affect several parts of Luzon this weekend as a frontal system and southwesterly wind flow bring scattered to intense showers. Local weather authorities have issued rainfall warnings due to these conditions, urging residents to stay alert.

Weather experts report that the southwesterly wind flow, which signals the onset of the southwest monsoon or “habagat,” will cause cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and Central Luzon within the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the Cagayan Valley will experience similar weather conditions because of a frontal system formed by the interaction of warm and cold air masses. These systems are expected to bring moderate to heavy rain in the coming days.

Areas Expected to Experience Heavy Rainfall

Metro Manila and nearby provinces including Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon are forecasted to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the southwesterly wind flow. Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan will also see similar weather patterns.

Other regions across the country will generally have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

Rainfall to Continue into Next Week

Meteorological reports indicate that moderate to heavy rains may persist in Ilocos Region, Metro Manila, parts of CAR, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, and the nearby provinces until Tuesday, June 3. On Saturday, heavy rainfall is likely in specific areas such as Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, and Bataan due to the southwesterly wind flow.

Additionally, the frontal system is expected to bring heavy rain to Batanes and the Babuyan Islands. This rainfall pattern is predicted to continue into Sunday, June 1, affecting these northernmost areas as well as the other provinces mentioned earlier.

Precautions and Advisories

Authorities advise residents in affected areas to remain vigilant against localized flooding, especially in low-lying, urban, or river-adjacent communities. There is also a risk of landslides in mountainous or landslide-prone zones. Community leaders said, “Mag-ingat po tayo lalo na sa mga lugar na madaling bahain at madalas magkaroon ng landslide.”

By staying informed and prepared, communities can better cope with the potential impacts of the heavy rain and thunderstorms expected in the coming days.
