Weather Outlook: Rains to Prevail in Luzon
Overcast skies and steady rain showers are expected to prevail in parts of Luzon this Sunday, officials reported. Meanwhile, the rest of the Philippines will enjoy fair weather conditions, according to the latest forecast from the national weather agency.
Weather experts noted that the trough or cluster of clouds associated with a low-pressure area (LPA) located outside the Philippine boundary, along with the southwest monsoon or habagat, will influence Metro Manila and several Luzon provinces.
Low-Pressure Area and Southwest Monsoon Effects
The LPA is currently positioned roughly 900 kilometers west of Central Luzon and is forecasted to move toward Vietnam or southern China, making it unlikely to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). Community members said this system could develop into a storm within the next 24 hours but will no longer significantly impact the country.
Still, the cloudiness and rain brought by the LPA’s trough will cause overcast skies and rainfall, particularly over western parts of Northern and Central Luzon. “Based on our analysis, this may develop into a storm within 24 hours. It is no longer significantly affecting the country, but the trough or cloudiness brought by the LPA may bring overcast skies with rain, particularly over the western portions of Northern and Central Luzon,” a weather specialist explained in Filipino.
Additionally, the southwest monsoon is expected to bring cloudy skies and rain showers over Metro Manila, Batangas, Cavite, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan. Officials highlighted that these areas should prepare for intermittent rainfall throughout the day.
Fair Weather in Other Regions
Aside from Luzon’s western parts, most other regions in the country will experience fair weather. Isolated rain showers and thunderstorms may occur from afternoon until evening, sources said, but no widespread adverse weather is anticipated.
Maritime authorities reported that no gale warnings have been issued for any of the country’s seaboards, ensuring safer conditions for sea travel and fishing activities.
