Crime Rates Drop Significantly in Early 2025
MANILA, Philippines — Rape, injury and robbery cases declined noticeably in the first half of 2025, local officials confirmed. The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla highlighted the positive trend in a recent statement.
Between January and June, rape incidents fell by 31.85 percent, while cases of physical injury dropped by 30.21 percent. Meanwhile, robbery incidents decreased by 26.47 percent compared to the same period last year. These figures reflect considerable progress in public safety efforts nationwide.
Firearms and Illegal Drugs Seizures Strengthen Security
Authorities also reported that 4,096 individuals faced charges related to firearms violations. In the same period, law enforcement confiscated 12,891 loose firearms, reinforcing efforts to curb illegal weapons circulation.
The DILG further revealed that 24,148 arrests were made, and over 200 kilograms of illegal drugs, valued at approximately P2.17 billion, were seized during 22,649 anti-drug operations. Secretary Remulla praised the intensified crackdown on crime and illegal substances, emphasizing the importance of sustained vigilance.
Encouraging Governance in Peace and Order Council
Remulla urged newly appointed regional and local Peace and Order Council (POC) chairpersons to continue promoting good governance. Strengthening the formulation and implementation of POC initiatives remains crucial to maintaining the downward trend in crime rates, he added.
PNP Reports Overall Crime Decrease
Supporting these findings, the Philippine National Police (PNP) announced a 22.53 percent decline in focus crimes from January 1 to June 13. The focus crimes category includes murder, homicide, rape, physical injury, carnapping of motorcycles and vehicles, and theft.
Honoring Late Governors in Peace Efforts
During the National Peace and Order Council meeting, officials adopted a resolution to commend outgoing regional POC chairpersons who served from 2022 to 2025. Among those honored were the late governors Roel Degamo of Negros Oriental and Carlos Padilla of Nueva Vizcaya.
Padilla passed away in May 2023 from a heart attack, while Degamo was tragically killed in March 2023 in what is now known as the Pamplona Massacre, local leaders noted.
The continued collaboration between government agencies and local communities aims to sustain this positive momentum in crime reduction.
