New Platform Empowers Filipinos to Report Flood Control Issues
The government has launched a new tool to help Filipinos report concerns about flood control projects in their areas. The Sumbong sa Pangulo website offers a transparent way for citizens to file complaints and track details of flood control efforts nationwide.
Malacañang emphasized the importance of using the Sumbong sa Pangulo platform responsibly. Officials urged the public to submit accurate and truthful information to support the ongoing investigation into possible irregularities in flood control projects.
Ensuring Accurate and Responsible Reporting
During a recent briefing, Palace spokesperson Undersecretary Claire Castro reminded Filipinos that all submissions undergo thorough verification. She warned that prank or false reports could weaken the platform’s credibility and slow down government actions.
“Please do not treat reporting as a game. Just make sure that what you report has a basis, so that the government’s time will not be wasted reviewing your report, only to find out that you were just making things up,” Castro stated, stressing the need for sincerity.
Anonymous Reporting and Open Submission Period
For those hesitant to reveal their identities, the platform allows anonymous complaints. Castro assured the public that submitting names is optional, encouraging everyone to come forward without fear.
Moreover, there is no deadline for submitting reports. As long as President Marcos remains in office, the government welcomes ongoing citizen participation in monitoring flood control projects.
“[If] you truly know something about anomalous projects, you do not need to put your name if you are afraid to make this report,” she added. “There is no deadline for this, and as long as President Marcos is here, we encourage you to continue submitting your reports.”
Comprehensive Flood Control Project Details at Your Fingertips
The Sumbong sa Pangulo website catalogs 9,855 flood control projects managed by the Department of Public Works and Highways from July 2022 to May 2025. These include construction and repair works on cutoff channels, dikes, drainage structures, retarding basins, revetments, and other flood mitigation facilities.
Each project entry provides vital information such as location, contractor name, project cost, and completion date. Citizens can easily search for projects in their localities using filters or explore them through an interactive map.
Encouraging Community Participation for Safer Communities
Local leaders and community members have welcomed the initiative, recognizing it as a vital step toward transparency and accountability. By empowering the public to monitor flood control projects, the government aims to improve infrastructure quality and reduce the risk of flooding nationwide.
This move also supports President Marcos’s commitment to fight corruption and ensure that infrastructure funds are used effectively to protect Filipino communities.
