Retired Lt. Gen. Jonnel Estomo Demands Public Apology
Retired Lt. Gen. Jonnel Estomo has called for a public apology from whistleblower Julie Patidongan, also known as “Totoy,” for linking him to the alleged disappearance of dozens of cockfighting enthusiasts. Estomo warned that he will pursue legal action if these claims are not retracted immediately.
In a recent phone interview, Estomo, who previously led the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), firmly denied Patidongan’s accusations. He rejected the allegations that he belongs to a so-called “alpha group” involved in the disappearances and that he ordered harm against the whistleblower.
Strong Denial and Evidence Presented
“First, I was accused of being part of the ‘alpha group,’ but I have a certificate proving I am not a member. He should retract that claim. Also, he said I ordered his killing—these are two serious issues,” Estomo stated.
To back his denial, Estomo shared a certification dated July 11 issued by the Pitmaster Foundation Inc., chaired by businessman Charlie “Atong” Ang. The document clarifies that Estomo “is not in any way a trustee or an officer of the corporation nor connected to its business activities or operations.”
“This certificate, coming directly from the Pitmaster, proves that Lt. Gen. Jonnel Cabrillos Estomo, retired, is not linked to the Pitmaster Foundation,” the retired general explained. “Simply put, if I am not connected, how could I be a member of the ‘alpha group?’”
Background of the Allegations
Patidongan, who is currently out on bail, filed an administrative complaint last Monday against 18 active and dismissed policemen at the National Police Commission. His complaint is related to the disappearance of numerous cockfighting aficionados.
Patidongan initially claimed Estomo was a co-conspirator in the disappearances. He later named Estomo as part of Ang’s alleged “alpha group” during a July 16 interview on dzRH.
The case involves at least 34 missing cockfighting enthusiasts reported between April 2021 and January 2022 across various parts of Luzon.
Department of Justice Response
The Department of Justice recently stated it cannot proceed with Patidongan’s claims without a sworn affidavit. This has delayed further action on the allegations.
Estomo’s firm rebuttal and evidence have sparked new discussions about the veracity of the whistleblower’s claims. The retired official remains poised to take legal steps if the accusations are not withdrawn.
