Right-of-Way Issues Stall Ortigas Station Progress

Resolving Right-of-Way Issues at Ortigas Station

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon and Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto recently joined forces to address the right-of-way issues delaying the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) at Ortigas Station. Their collaboration aims to clear obstacles and expedite construction, aligning with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to complete key transportation projects.

During their site inspection, Dizon emphasized the urgency to find solutions. “Ngayon nagsama-sama kami dito para maghanap ng solusyon. Hopefully, after a few weeks, we will finally start construction,” he said. This shared commitment reflects the local government’s dedication to overcoming challenges that have held back progress at the Ortigas Station site.

Local Government Support Accelerates Subway Construction

Mayor Vico Sotto expressed gratitude to the Department of Transportation and pledged Pasig City’s support. “Kami sa Pasig LGU, inaabangan na rin namin ‘yung subway, kaya gagawin din namin ang makakaya namin para makatulong. Nakikita namin umaandar na lahat, at ‘yung mga natitirang problema naaayos na,” he stated.

The city government’s involvement is crucial in resolving remaining issues to ensure smoother and faster construction phases. Their cooperation complements efforts to meet the ambitious timeline set for this major infrastructure project.

Project Overview and Impact

On July 17, Secretary Dizon directed contractors to accelerate work on the PHP488.5-billion Metro Manila Subway, a project designed to ease traffic congestion for hundreds of thousands of commuters daily. The subway line stretches 37 kilometers and will include 17 stations.

Once operational, the subway will significantly reduce travel time from Quezon City to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City. The journey, which currently takes about one hour and 10 minutes, is expected to shrink to just 45 minutes, transforming the daily commute for Metro Manila’s residents.

Sources noted that resolving the right-of-way issues at Ortigas Station is a key step toward realizing the project’s full benefits. Both national and local government units are working closely to ensure the construction proceeds without further delays.
