Robbery Suspect Traced Through iPhone Tracking App
BUTUAN CITY – A robbery suspect was apprehended after police tracked him down using an iPhone tracking app. The technology helped authorities locate the man on Pabayo Street, Barangay 3, Cagayan de Oro City early Monday morning, May 26.
The 72-year-old victim from Quezon City enlisted the help of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office-Station 4 after he and two companions were robbed of valuables inside the house where they were staying. They managed to trace the suspect’s location through the iPhone tracker app.
“Our police reaction force immediately jumped off after they got the information at 6 a.m. on Monday, May 26, to the pinpointed area,” said a police spokesperson from the regional public information office.
Suspect Arrested with Stolen Items
Authorities arrested the 20-year-old suspect and recovered several stolen items, including an iPhone 12 valued at ₱30,000, an iPhone 11 worth ₱20,000, a Samsung S7 touchscreen phone valued at ₱36,000, a wallet, and cash.
Further checks revealed the suspect had an outstanding warrant for theft. Police served the warrant immediately and transferred the suspect to the Maharlika Detention Cell in Cagayan de Oro City for proper legal proceedings.
Legal Actions and Community Response
Police are preparing robbery charges to file against the suspect. The victim and his companions expressed their gratitude for the swift police response.
A regional police director praised the collaboration between the complainants and the officers, emphasizing how “community cooperation, prompt action, and modern technology can work together to fight crime.”
He added, “I commend the victims for their vigilance and our police units for their swift response. Let us continue working together to ensure a safer Northern Mindanao.”
