Ruffa Gutierrez’s Advice on Love and Independence
Actress Ruffa Gutierrez recently opened up about her views on love and independence while reuniting with her daughters, Lorin and Venice Bektas, who returned to Manila after their school break in the United States. At the launch of her latest endorsement for a jewelry brand in Greenhills, Ruffa emphasized the importance of strong values and financial independence for her children.
She advised her daughters to avoid casual encounters, especially street meetings or just chatting with strangers on social media. “I tell Lorin and Venice, huwag kayong makipagkita sa kalye. Or mag uusap lang kayo sa Instagram at nagpapakilala. Hindi ako naniniwala sa ganun. Kailangan pumunta sila sa bahay, humarap sila, magpakilala sila, at magbigay sila ng fruits,” she explained. When questioned about the fruit tradition, she humorously added that macaroons would be acceptable as long as the suitors introduce themselves properly at home. She firmly adheres to the values she was taught by her own parents and discourages her daughters from meeting potential suitors outside unless they are just friends.
Teaching Financial Independence Early
Ruffa has started instilling independence in her daughters from a young age. When Venice mentioned having a crush, Ruffa candidly responded, “But I tell them straight na para lang kaming magkakabarkada.” She insists that her daughters focus on completing their studies first and that they should not chase after crushes. Instead, she jokingly stresses that any suitor should be the one to pursue them.
She continues to remind her children about choosing partners who are God-fearing, hardworking, and loving. More importantly, she wants them to grow into independent individuals who do not rely on anyone else, especially men, to support them financially.
Providing for Her Children and Future Plans
Currently the sole provider for her daughters’ education, Ruffa expresses pride in supporting their college studies. She shared, “Sa education ng mga bata, I am the sole provider. And I’m proud of that.” Although her marriage to Turkish businessman Yilmaz Bektas ended in annulment, she remains grateful for the financial help from her family whenever needed.
Ruffa has avoided having to sell her valuables for her children’s schooling, attributing this to her steady work in shows, endorsements, and investments. She also mentioned that her mother and former partner contribute occasionally. With Lorin already working and set to graduate early next year, Ruffa expects to have fewer educational expenses soon.
Open to Love but Focused on Family
Reflecting on her past marriage and future hopes, Ruffa admitted she was once hesitant to remarry due to trauma. However, after attending Bible studies, she has softened her stance, saying, “I’m not closing my doors.” She hopes that if she does marry again, it will be a lifelong partnership. Until then, she is content with her current situation and happy to focus on her family and career.
Upcoming Projects and Brand Endorsements
At the launch event, Ruffa was warmly welcomed by local business owners as she announced her upcoming role in a new television series premiering in June. She plans to showcase jewelry from her endorsement in several scenes of the show. Additionally, she expressed excitement about expanding the brand’s presence to other regions in the country.
