Construction of Sagay City Police Station Starts
BACOLOD CITY – The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region and the Sagay city government have officially begun building the P25-million standard-type Sagay City Police Station. This new station will serve as a vital upgrade for law enforcement in the area.
Police Col. Dennis Esguerra, deputy director for administration of PRO-NIR, alongside Negros Occidental second district Rep. Alfredo Marañon III, Sagay City Mayor Narciso Javelosa Jr., and Police Lt. Col. Alvimar Flores, the Sagay police chief, led the groundbreaking event. This took place on Monday, June 9, at the new Sagay Public Market in Barangay Poblacion II.
Flores explained that the new standard-type police station is built on a 1,500-square-meter lot donated by the city government. The Philippine National Police will fund the construction. The official donation was completed on September 30, 2019, through a deed signed by then Mayor Rep. Marañon and former Negros Occidental police director Police Col. Romeo Baleros.
Building Features and Community Impact
The two-story building will feature offices, living quarters, detention cells, and conference rooms. Mayor Javelosa expressed optimism about the project, saying, “We are confident that this project will bring furtherance to community services, developing the values of the PNP organization and the community involved.”
Rep. Marañon praised the efforts of all stakeholders who helped make this milestone possible. He noted that the new police station would improve response times and increase police visibility in the community.
The P24.9-million facility is expected to be completed by June 9, 2026. Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director, conveyed his gratitude through a message read by Esguerra. He thanked everyone who helped facilitate the requirements and documents needed for this project.
“May this groundbreaking ceremony serve as an inspiration to us all to strengthen our efforts in our law enforcement campaigns against illegal drugs, illegal gambling, loose firearms, and other operations,” the message said.
Modernizing Police Services in Sagay
As of March, only 10 police stations in the province lack standard-type buildings, including Sagay. Police Lt. Col. Flores stated that the new building will allow them to upgrade their services while embracing modernization.
He emphasized that this project represents the ongoing transformation of the Philippine National Police. It reflects their commitment to building permanent, purpose-built facilities that embody professionalism, service, and integrity.
