Weather Update: Scattered Rainshowers and Thunderstorms Expected
Isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms are forecast across the Philippines this Sunday, officials reported. The state weather bureau highlighted that the southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat, continues to influence the western areas of Northern and Central Luzon.
Southwest Monsoon’s Impact on Luzon
According to meteorological sources, a large part of Luzon will experience isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms mainly during the afternoon and evening hours. These weather disturbances are generally short-lived, lasting an hour or two, and bring light to moderate rainfall that may intensify briefly but does not persist throughout the day.
Tropical Storm Lannie No Longer a Threat
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Lannie, internationally named Tapah, is currently positioned about 640 kilometers west of Laoag City in Ilocos Norte and remains outside the Philippine area of responsibility. Community members monitoring the situation confirmed that the storm will no longer affect the country. Furthermore, the likelihood of tropical cyclone formation remains low for the rest of the week.
Weather Conditions in Other Regions
Palawan is expected to enjoy generally fair weather throughout the day. In contrast, much of the Visayas region will experience isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms, mostly from afternoon until evening, officials noted. Meanwhile, Mindanao will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon and evening.
Local leaders pointed out a high chance of cloudy skies over eastern Mindanao, especially in the Caraga and Davao regions. This is due to prevailing easterly winds coming from the Pacific Ocean.
Sea and Temperature Conditions
No gale warnings have been raised for any of the country’s seaboards, sources said. Sea conditions will remain light to moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 1.8 meters. However, thunderstorms may cause occasional higher waves, so caution is advised for those at sea.
