Police Secure Hospital for Ambushed School Principal
In Cotabato City, a team of policemen is closely monitoring the safety and security of a school principal who is currently recuperating in a hospital after an ambush on Tuesday. The school principal of a Cotabato town remains under tight protection as authorities ensure her well-being during treatment.
Brig. Gen. Romeo Macapaz, director of Police Regional Office-12, emphasized that no risks are being taken. The local hospital where Arlyn Alcebar is confined is under heavy police surveillance to prevent any further threats.
Ongoing Investigation into the Ambush Incident
Authorities reported that the Midsayap police are actively pursuing several leads in their investigation of the attack against the school principal. Efforts to identify and apprehend the suspects are ongoing as officials coordinate with military units.
Alcebar, the head of Agriculture Elementary School located in Barangay Agriculture, Midsayap town, was ambushed early Tuesday morning. She was about to enter the school premises when two men on a motorcycle approached her vehicle.
According to police sources, one of the assailants fired shots at Alcebar before fleeing in an unknown direction. Despite the sudden attack, she remained composed as Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team members and volunteer traffic officers quickly transferred her to a tricycle heading to a hospital in Barangay Poblacion.
Community Response and Class Suspension
In response to the incident, the Department of Education has suspended classes in all public schools within Barangay Agriculture until Friday. This measure aims to ensure the safety of students and staff while authorities continue their investigation.
Local leaders expressed strong condemnation of the attack. Cotabato Governor Emmylou Mendoza and Midsayap Mayor Rolly Sacdalan both denounced the violence targeting the school principal.
Officials Condemn Violence, Call for Justice
Mayor Sacdalan voiced his anger during a news conference, recalling his recent presence with Alcebar during a school event just days before the attack. “I’m mad, I’m angry, violence has no place in Midsayap while we aim for peace and development,” he stated.
He questioned the use of violence as a solution, saying, “Is violence a solution to misunderstanding? Very unfortunate, very infuriating.”
Addressing the perpetrators in the local dialect, Sacdalan warned, “You who sow fear, your day of judgment will come. God is watching.”
Military Assistance Sought to Aid Police Pursuit
To strengthen the efforts in pursuing the suspects responsible for the attempted killing of Alcebar, the mayor requested support from the Army’s 34th Infantry Battalion. The combined efforts of police and military units aim to bring the perpetrators to justice swiftly.
