Sea Travel Resumes for Polillo Islands After Storm
Sea travel for all vessels over the Polillo group of islands in northern Quezon province resumed early Friday morning. This followed the lifting of Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Station Southern Quezon, located in Lucena City, confirmed the update based on Pagasa’s Tropical Cyclone Bulletin No. 10, issued at 8 a.m. It declared the end of TCWS No. 1 over the Polillo group, allowing sea travel to continue safely.
Storm Impact and Suspension Details
Earlier, the PCG suspended all sea voyages starting at 5 a.m. due to rough sea conditions brought on by Tropical Storm Crising. The suspension mainly affected Polillo Island, which faces the Pacific Ocean and includes the towns of Polillo, Burdeos, and Panukulan.
Moreover, Jomalig—the smallest and most remote town in the southeast section of the Polillo island group—along with Patnanungan Island, experienced travel restrictions during the storm. Local authorities noted the importance of resuming sea travel to support the movement of residents and goods.
Safety Reminders and Local Updates
As sea travel resumes, the PCG encourages all vessel operators and passengers to stay alert for weather updates. They also advise following safety protocols while navigating the waters around the Polillo islands.
Residents expressed relief with the lifting of travel restrictions. One local said, “Salamat na maayos na ang panahon para makabalik na kami sa amin.” Community leaders highlighted the importance of preparedness for future storms to minimize disruptions.
