Second Low Pressure Area Forms Inside Philippine Area
MANILA, Philippines — A second low pressure area has developed inside the Philippine area of responsibility, meteorologists reported Monday afternoon. This new weather disturbance, along with another existing low pressure area, both carry a medium chance of intensifying into tropical depressions, local weather authorities said.
As of 2:00 p.m., the newly-formed low pressure area was located about 405 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan. Meanwhile, the first low pressure area, which appeared Sunday night, was last tracked 1,220 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon. Both systems have a “medium” potential to grow into tropical depressions within the next 24 hours, experts noted.
Potential Tropical Cyclones Dante and Emong
Should these two low pressure areas strengthen into tropical cyclones, they will be locally named Dante and Emong. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) continues to monitor their progress closely to provide timely updates and warnings.
Impact of Severe Tropical Storm Crising and Southwest Monsoon
Earlier, Severe Tropical Storm Crising, the third tropical cyclone to affect the country this year, enhanced the southwest monsoon or “habagat,” resulting in heavy rainfall across numerous regions. These combined weather conditions have caused serious flooding and landslides in affected areas.
According to disaster response officials, the combined effects of Crising and the habagat have led to five fatalities, with seven others still missing. Local leaders urge residents to stay vigilant and heed evacuation orders as needed to ensure safety.
