MANILA, Philippines — The Senate committee chairmanships continue to take shape as more posts were revealed during Wednesday’s plenary session. This steady progress leaves only three panels still unassigned in the upper chamber, signaling a near-complete organizational setup.
Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva disclosed the latest appointments, highlighting key leadership roles across various committees. The Senate committee chairmanships now include prominent lawmakers heading vital sectors, shaping legislative priorities for the 20th Congress.
New Leaders in Senate Committees
- Culture and Arts — Sen. Loren Legarda
- Civil Service, Government Regularization and Professional Regulation — Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa
- Economic Affairs — Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri
- Electoral Reforms and People’s Participation — Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson
- Government Corporations and Public Enterprises — Sen. Mark Villar
- Women, Children, Family Relations & Gender Equality — Sen. Risa Hontiveros
Despite these assignments, three key committees remain without chairpersons: Banks, Financial Institutions and Currencies; Ethics and Privileges; and Urban Planning, Housing and Resettlement. These vacancies are expected to be filled soon as the Senate moves toward full operational capacity.
Deputy Leadership Announcements
Following the committee chairmanship updates, Senate Minority Leader Vicente Sotto III requested to document that the minority bloc has chosen Senators Risa Hontiveros and Juan Miguel Zubiri as Deputy Minority Leaders for the current Congress. This move strengthens minority representation in the Senate’s leadership structure.
Meanwhile, Majority Leader Villanueva also revealed that Senators JV Ejercito and Rodante Marcoleta have been elected as Deputy Majority Leaders. Their roles will support the majority bloc’s legislative agenda and coordination.
