Senate Cuts Working Hours on Monday Due to Habagat
MANILA, Philippines — The Senate has shortened its working hours on Monday in response to the severe weather brought by the southwest monsoon, locally known as the “habagat.” This decision aims to prioritize the safety of all personnel amid heavy rains and potential flooding.
According to an advisory released Monday afternoon, Senate Secretary Atty. Renato Bantug Jr. confirmed that Senate President Francis Escudero ordered work to end by 2:00 p.m. to address the challenges posed by the inclement weather.
Details on the Adjusted Work Schedule
“In view of the inclement weather, Senate President Escudero has instructed that work in the Senate shall only be until 2:00 p.m. today,” the advisory stated clearly. However, certain personnel such as those from the Office of the Sergeant-At-Arms and the Maintenance and General Services Bureau, who follow a shifting schedule, are exempted from the shortened hours.
Weather Warnings and Safety Precautions
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has issued warnings for residents in Metro Manila and nearby provinces including Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, and Rizal. They are advised to be alert for flooding, especially in urbanized, low-lying areas or regions near rivers.
Moreover, Pagasa has alerted communities about the risk of landslides due to the persistent heavy rains. Local leaders and agencies are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect lives and property.
