Senate Unveils Online Budget Portal
The Senate has launched a new online budget portal to enhance transparency in government spending. This online budget portal will provide the public with easy access to all documents related to the national budget for 2026. Officials reported that this initiative aims to promote openness and allow citizens to track the budget’s progress from start to finish.
Tracking the Budget Process in Real Time
During a briefing by the Senate development budget coordination committee, key figures emphasized the portal’s role in tracking budget documents. “The Senate has already activated its budget transparency portal where all the documents related to the budget will be uploaded,” a Senate official said. This means the public can follow the budget’s journey from the National Expenditure Program (NEP) to the General Appropriations Bill (GAB), committee reports, third reading reports, and finally to the Bicameral Conference Committee (BiCam).
Encouraging Public Participation and Feedback
The online budget portal also includes a feedback feature that invites the public to submit questions, comments, and critiques. Community members noted that this interactive mechanism allows citizens to have a direct voice in budget discussions. “We are encouraging the public to submit their questions, analysis and criticisms so they will have a voice in the discussions of the budget,” a source said.
Details on the Proposed 2026 National Budget
The proposed budget for 2026 is set at ₱6.793 trillion, marking a 7.4 percent increase from this year’s ₱6.326 trillion allocation. Local leaders highlighted that this growth reflects the government’s commitment to addressing various developmental needs while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
Promoting Transparency and Accountability
By providing an accessible and transparent platform, the Senate aims to strengthen accountability in the budgeting process. Officials reported that this initiative will help build public trust by allowing citizens to monitor government spending closely and engage meaningfully in budget deliberations.
