Camille Villar Open to Investigation Amid PrimeWater Concerns
Senator-elect Camille Villar expressed openness to a probe into PrimeWater Infrastructure Corp.’s services if the public demands it. “As I have said prior to the elections, kung yan ang gusto ng mayorya ng tao ay wine-welcome po natin ‘yan,” she said during the Commission on Elections proclamation of the winning senators.
This marks the first time Villar addressed questions about PrimeWater following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s order to investigate the company’s operations. The firm is owned by the Villar family.
Emotional Speech and Family Support at Proclamation
During her proclamation, Camille was joined by her family, including her father, former Senate President Manny Villar, and outgoing Senator Cynthia Villar, her mother. Overwhelmed by the moment, she became emotional as she thanked her husband, children, siblings, and parents.
She vowed to “work twice as hard, stand twice as firm,” promising leadership that means “showing up, standing up when it’s easier to play it safe, and speaking out when it’s more convenient to stay silent.”
Endorsements and Campaign Challenges
After the ceremony, Camille acknowledged Vice President Sara Duterte, whom she had forgotten to mention during her speech. “I’m certain na marami po akong nakalimutang pasalamatan. Isa na po diyan ang ating minamahal na Vice President Sara Duterte. Hindi po naging madali ang kampanya na ito para po sa akin,” she stated.
When asked if President Marcos Jr.’s endorsement helped her win, she responded affirmatively. Despite this, Camille largely skipped campaign rallies with the Marcos administration’s senatorial slate, known as Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas.
Her absences increased after former President Rodrigo Duterte was detained abroad facing charges, leading to Vice President Duterte endorsing her in political ads.
PrimeWater Investigation Amid Service Complaints
Midway through the campaign, President Marcos ordered an investigation into PrimeWater following complaints about its service in various provinces. However, Malacañang denied claims by Vice President Duterte that politics motivated the probe.
Joining the Senate with Family Legacy
Camille Villar secured the seventh spot in the senatorial race with over 13 million votes, joining her brother Mark in the Senate. Her commitment to serve with integrity and dedication reflects her family’s long-standing political involvement.
