Senator Legarda Files Priority Bills for Inclusive Growth

MANILA, Philippines – Senator Loren Legarda has introduced her first ten priority bills for the 20th Congress, demonstrating her strong dedication to inclusive growth, environmental protection, and social welfare. These priority bills focus on uplifting marginalized communities and building a just, equitable, and sustainable future for all Filipinos.

“These measures aim to uplift the lives of Filipinos, particularly the marginalized and vulnerable, while advancing a future that is just, equitable, and sustainable,” Legarda emphasized. She added that the urgency of these bills reflects the pressing needs of society and the necessity to act promptly.

Key Focus Areas of the Priority Bills

The ten bills filed by the senator address crucial issues such as digital access for learners, livelihood support for small enterprises, climate action initiatives, and protections for women, children, senior citizens, and informal workers.

The Ten Priority Bills Introduced

  1. One Tablet, One Student Act – aims to promote digital inclusion nationwide by providing students with tablets to support their learning.
  2. Pangkabuhayan Act – strengthens assistance for small and micro enterprises to boost livelihood opportunities.
  3. Unpaid Care Workers Equity and Empowerment Act – acknowledges and supports the vital unpaid care work, especially by women.
  4. Magna Carta of Waste Workers – guarantees protections and benefits for workers in the waste management sector.
  5. Living Wage Act – ensures fair and decent wages for all Filipino workers.
  6. Monthly Maintenance Medication Support for Senior Citizens Act – provides indigent senior citizens with monthly access to essential maintenance medicines.
  7. Women and Children Protection Units Act – institutionalizes dedicated services for survivors of abuse and violence.
  8. Low Carbon Economy Act – promotes a just transition toward a low-emission development pathway.
  9. Complementarity in Education Act – strengthens collaboration between public and private education sectors.
  10. Blue Economy Act – supports sustainable use and management of the country’s ocean resources.

“These bills are a continuation of my lifelong work to protect people and the planet. I look forward to working with my colleagues to pass these measures into law,” the senator stated. She expressed hope that these legislative efforts would bring meaningful development to the lives of Filipinos once Congress resumes session.
