Senator Praises Marcos’ Independent Commission on DPWH Projects

Senator Commends Independent Commission on DPWH Projects

Senator Panfilo Lacson recently praised President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s initiative to establish an independent commission to investigate questionable infrastructure projects under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) within the last three years. This independent commission on DPWH projects aims to uncover irregularities and promote transparency in government undertakings, local officials reported.

“Good move on the part of the president…” Lacson said. He welcomed the news that Mayor Benjamin Magalong would join the commission, adding, “that’s even better.” Community members noted that his involvement could strengthen the commission’s credibility and effectiveness.

Lacson Offers Support to the Commission

The senator expressed his willingness to assist the independent commission, stating, “I will extend whatever assistance I can offer, if requested, especially so that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has a dynamic, progressive-minded and reform-oriented head in the person of Sec. Vince Dizon.” He added that he is ready to provide information already gathered to aid the investigation.

Commission Structure Still Being Finalized

President Marcos acknowledged that the independent commission on DPWH projects is still in its early stages, with no finalized structure or member count yet. Officials revealed that several notable figures are being considered to join the panel, including former DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson and retired PNP Chief General Nicolas Torre III.

According to sources, the commission will require a diverse team comprising forensic investigators, lawyers, justices, and prosecutors. Their task will be to thoroughly examine all evidence and information related to the alleged anomalies in infrastructure projects.

Next Steps and Possible Legal Action

After compiling their findings, the commission will recommend appropriate actions to either the Department of Justice or the Office of the Ombudsman, depending on those found accountable for illicit activities. Local leaders emphasized that this step is crucial to ensure accountability and restore public trust in government infrastructure programs.

With these developments, the independent commission on DPWH projects is expected to bring much-needed scrutiny and reform to the department’s operations. Community members expressed hope that this initiative will lead to cleaner governance and more efficient public works.
