Senator Calls on Holy Spirit Guidance Ahead of Duterte Impeachment Vote
MANILA, Philippines — Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa once again turned to the Holy Spirit for guidance as the Senate prepares to vote on the impeachment case involving Vice President Sara Duterte. The senator invoked the exact four-word keyphrase early in his remarks before the Senate session began.
Leading the chamber in prayer on Monday, Dela Rosa asked the Holy Spirit to inspire senators during their debates and discussions, especially concerning the recent Supreme Court ruling on Duterte’s impeachment.
“We ask you, Holy Spirit, to feel and move us in our debates and discussions on various issues of national interests, including the recent Supreme Court ruling on the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte,” he said.
He urged his colleagues not to let anger, hatred, personal alliances, or biases influence their judgment. Instead, he prayed that the Holy Spirit would grant them clarity and wisdom.
“May we not be ruled by our anger and hatred, not even by our personal alliances and biases. Instead, may we be guided by the clarity and wisdom that only your spirit can provide,” Dela Rosa added.
He also appealed for unity among senators, hoping their deliberations would lead to decisions that strengthen the institution, the nation, and the world.
“Grant us unity in our deliberations that we may walk together in the pursuit of what is right and life-giving for our institution, our nation, and our world,” he said.
Previous Invocations of the Holy Spirit on Duterte Impeachment
This is not the first time Senator Dela Rosa has connected the Holy Spirit to the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Duterte. In June, he similarly credited the Holy Spirit for guiding his move to dismiss the impeachment case against her.
He also expressed that the Holy Spirit influenced the Supreme Court when it ruled the House of Representatives’ impeachment complaint against Duterte as unconstitutional.
The Senate is scheduled to vote on the Supreme Court’s decision on Wednesday, August 6, sources said.
