Senator Bong Go Calls for Vigilance Amid COVID-19 Cases Rise in Southeast Asia
Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has urged Filipinos to stay vigilant yet calm following a recent increase in COVID-19 cases reported in parts of Southeast Asia. The senator emphasized the importance of maintaining health and safety measures despite the country’s progress against the pandemic.
As chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Go highlighted that continuing to follow basic health protocols remains crucial. He stated, “Marami na tayong lessons learned mula sa nangyari noong pandemya. Nalampasan man natin ito, hindi rin tayo pwedeng maging kampante (We have learned many lessons from the pandemic. While we were able to overcome this, we still can’t be complacent).”
Maintaining Health Protocols in Public Spaces and Hospitals
Even though mask-wearing has become optional, Go advised Filipinos to keep wearing face masks, especially in hospitals and crowded public areas. “Ugaliin pa rin natin ang pagsusuot ng face mask sa mga ospital, paghuhugas ng kamay, at patuloy na pagbibigay halaga sa ating kalusugan (Let’s make it habit to wear face masks in hospitals, to wash hands and giving importance to our health),” he added.
The senator also stressed the vital role of caution in protecting health, reminding everyone, “Importante ang pag-iingat, lalo na kung kalusugan ang nakataya. Tandaan na health is wealth (It’s important to be careful, especially if our health is at stake. Let’s remember health is wealth).”
Health Authorities Monitor COVID-19 Trends Closely
Meanwhile, health officials have reassured the public that there is no need for panic despite the recent uptick in COVID-19 infections across various Asian countries, including Hong Kong, Singapore, and Thailand. Sources familiar with the matter confirmed that the Department of Health continues to monitor these trends closely.
Health authorities encourage everyone to practice proper coughing etiquette and to stay home when feeling unwell. These simple steps remain effective in reducing the spread of infections.
Continued Focus on Public Health
The recent developments underline the importance of sustained public health vigilance. Experts emphasize that while progress has been made, the risk of new waves remains, especially with the increased cases in neighboring countries.
Filipinos are urged to keep adopting healthy habits such as frequent handwashing, mask usage in high-risk settings, and staying informed about health updates.
