Senatorial Slate Performance Overview
The recent midterm elections saw the Marcos administration’s senatorial slate securing six of the 12 available seats. This outcome highlights the significant influence of the administration’s endorsed candidates across the country. Among those on the list was Camille Villar, who also received endorsement from Vice President Sara Duterte, highlighting a notable alliance within the political landscape.
Meanwhile, the Duterte camp claimed four seats in the winning Magic 12. If Camille Villar were counted as part of their group, this number would rise to five. Additionally, a third group, led by former senators Francis Pangilinan and Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV, also managed to place candidates among the winners.
Voting Patterns Across Island Groups
Mindanao’s Complete Sweep
In Mindanao, the Duterte camp dominated by securing all 12 senatorial seats. Not a single candidate from other groups succeeded in this southern region, showcasing the Duterte camp’s stronghold in Mindanao.
Luzon’s Top Twelve Results
Luzon, home to more than half of the country’s voters, produced ten winning senators from its Top 12. However, candidates Ben Tulfo and Benhur Abalos, despite their popularity in Luzon, did not win national seats.
Visayas and Bicol Voting Trends
In the Visayas, seven administration-backed candidates made it into the Top 12. Senators Christopher “Bong” Go and Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa led the pack. They were among three Duterte slate members who won seats in this region.
On the other hand, Bicol—known as the home region of former Vice President Leni Robredo—showed a different trend. Only Senator Go from the Duterte camp reached the Top 12 here. The majority of the region’s leading senators belonged to opposition-aligned parties.
Senatorial Slate in the National Capital Region
In the National Capital Region (NCR), five of the top 12 candidates had the endorsement of former President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., while three others were affiliated with the Duterte camp. Interestingly, two independent candidates, Heidi Mendoza and Bonifacio Bosita, secured unexpected spots in Metro Manila’s Top 12 despite lacking party backing.
These two independents also performed strongly in CALABARZON, a region with a large voter base, demonstrating that local support can sometimes outweigh party affiliations.
Overall, the senatorial slate results reveal distinct regional preferences and alliances, reflecting the complex political landscape ahead of future elections.
