Senior Citizens and Persons With Disabilities Wait to Vote
Senior citizens and persons with disabilities braved the heat and patiently waited in line this Monday, May 12, despite a brief delay in Cavite. The delay happened because one of the rooms at Santa Cruz Elementary School in Dasmariñas remained locked. The election officer holding the key suffered a medical emergency, which caused a last-minute change in staff to manage the polling area.
Among those waiting was 68-year-old Teresita Bonifacio, a senior citizen who had suffered two strokes before. Although it took her more than an hour and a half to cast her vote, she kept a smile on her face throughout the process, showing her determination despite the struggle.
Priority Polling Precincts for Voters Who Need Assistance
The priority polling precincts are designated to accommodate senior citizens and persons with disabilities who have difficulty walking. On the other hand, seniors who are still able to walk are directed to their regular polling precincts to help manage the flow of voters more efficiently.
Despite the challenges on election day, the commitment of senior citizens and persons with disabilities to participate in the democratic process remains strong. Their resilience highlights the importance of ensuring accessible voting for all, especially those who face physical challenges.
