Seven New People’s Army Fighters Surrender in Caraga Region
From May 1 to 22, seven New People’s Army (NPA) fighters surrendered to the Police Regional Office-13 in the Caraga region. The group handed over firearms and explosives as they committed to supporting the government’s peace and development initiatives. This recent development marks a significant step toward restoring peace in the area.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the fighters expressed their desire to leave behind their lives in the mountains. They want to live peacefully with their families and contribute positively to their communities. “They are already tired of hiding in the mountains and they want to live a peaceful life with their respective families and be productive in their respective communities,” local officials said.
Details on the Surrenderers and Their Commitment
The Police Regional Office-13’s Regional Operations Division identified the surrenderers as Ka Bong, Ka Ed (31), Ka Yok (57), Ka Law (36), Ka Put (29), Ka Rene (29), and Ka On (33). These individuals have renounced their involvement with the insurgent group and are now cooperating with the government.
Authorities have praised their decision to surrender. A regional police official encouraged others still involved with the insurgency to follow their example. “I encourage those who are still being misled and deceived by the senseless ideology of the CTG to return to the fold of the law and avail themselves of the government programs under the E-CLIP,” community leaders said.
Government Programs Supporting Former Fighters
The Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) offers former rebels opportunities for livelihood, education, and social services to help them reintegrate into society. Many who have surrendered expressed hope that these programs will aid in building a better future for themselves and their families.
This recent wave of surrenders reflects growing fatigue among insurgents and a stronger commitment to peace in the Caraga region. Authorities remain hopeful that more fighters will lay down their arms and join the government’s efforts to promote stability and development.
