Seven Silay City Employees Die in Accident
BACOLod CITY — Seven employees of the Silay City local government lost their lives, and 16 others were injured after the mini dump truck they were riding toppled over in Sitio San Juan, Barangay Guimbalaon, Silay City on Friday morning. This tragic mini dump truck crash occurred as the group was returning from a community tree planting activity.
The victims who died included Alexander Balili, 62; Rafael Jardiolin Jr., 57; Eldie Naguita, 65; Richer Dimson, 52; Leonillo Jerson, 38; Marlon Amarado, 36; and Jayme Bangis, 60. Local leaders confirmed these identities following the accident.
Accident Details and Investigation Underway
According to Mayor Joedith Gallego, the employees had just completed a tree planting event in Barangay Patag, demonstrating their dedication to environmental care and public service. However, on their way back, the driver of the mini dump truck, Hernane Masa, reportedly lost control of the vehicle. Police investigations revealed that Masa swerved on a cemented road section, causing the vehicle to tip onto its side.
“The City Government of Silay expresses its profound sorrow and deepest sympathies to the bereaved families of the victims who tragically lost their lives in the unfortunate vehicular accident that transpired today,” Mayor Gallego said in a heartfelt statement. He emphasized the group’s commitment to community and environmental causes, highlighting the gravity of the loss.
Support and Response Efforts
The city government is working closely with the Philippine National Police, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the City Health Office, and other agencies to provide all necessary support, including medical care and financial assistance, to the injured and the families of the deceased.
Gallego added, “This tragic occurrence has brought immeasurable grief to our community. It is a moment of collective mourning for all Silaynons.” He also assured the public that a thorough and impartial investigation will be undertaken to identify the cause of the accident. The goal is to ensure accountability and to prevent similar tragedies from happening in the future.
