Severe Tropical Storm Bising Affects Northern Luzon
Severe Tropical Storm Bising continues to impact Extreme Northern Luzon despite moving beyond the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). The storm, also known internationally as Danas, is expected to bring rainfall to parts of the region throughout the weekend, local sources said.
Bising was last tracked 420 kilometers west of Basco in Batanes, heading northeast at a swift 135 kilometers per hour (kph). It carries maximum sustained winds reaching 110 kph, with gusts up to 135 kph according to the latest update from weather authorities.
Weather Conditions and Warnings Issued
Weather experts emphasized that although the storm is outside the PAR, it still influences the weather in northern areas. “This does not have a direct impact on our country, nor do we have a wind signal raised, although we still expect the clouds it brings to cause rain, particularly in parts of Batanes and even the Babuyan Group of Islands,” a weather specialist explained.
Additionally, a gale warning remains in effect over Batanes due to the storm’s trough extending into the area. Residents and local officials remain on alert to ensure preparedness for possible adverse weather conditions.
Southwest Monsoon Sustains Rain Across Western Philippines
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon, known locally as habagat, continues to bring heavy rains to the western parts of the country. Areas affected include the Ilocos Region, Bataan, Zambales, Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Negros Island Region, BARMM, and the Zamboanga Peninsula.
Elsewhere, scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop from afternoon to evening, local meteorologists added.
