Severe Tropical Storm Crising Displaces Over 1.2 Million
Severe Tropical Storm Crising and the southwest monsoon have already affected more than 1.2 million people across the Philippines. According to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), over 367,000 families have been impacted by recent weather disturbances as of Monday evening.
The DSWD’s latest situational report, released at 9:00 p.m., confirmed that 1,256,973 individuals from various regions are facing difficulties due to the combined effects of Crising and the habagat. Affected families come from 2,090 barangays spread throughout Metro Manila, Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and the Cordillera Administrative Region.
Evacuations and Assistance Efforts Underway
Of those affected, 15,373 people have sought refuge inside 271 evacuation centers, while 71,527 others are receiving aid outside these centers. The government has already disbursed assistance valued at more than 53 million pesos to support relief operations.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported five fatalities and seven missing persons linked to Severe Tropical Storm Crising and the habagat. Local officials continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent further casualties.
DSWD on High Alert and Monitoring Stranded Individuals
The DSWD remains on red alert to track developments in affected communities. Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian has directed regional offices to keep an eye on the condition of locally stranded individuals, especially those at sea ports nationwide. This proactive approach aims to ensure their safety amid ongoing weather challenges.
Additionally, weather experts have identified two low-pressure areas within the Philippine area of responsibility as of Monday afternoon, signaling the possibility of continued unstable weather in the coming days.
