Severe Tropical Storm Podul Nears Philippine Area
Severe tropical storm Podul is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility by Sunday night, local sources said. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported its latest position about 1,875 kilometers east of Extreme Northern Luzon.
Weather specialist Obet Badrina noted, “In the latest track of tropical storm Podul, it is possible for it to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) tonight or early tomorrow morning.” This forecast highlights the storm’s potential to affect the region soon.
Storm Path and Impact Forecast
Podul is expected to remain in the northeastern part of the PAR from Monday through Tuesday. It may make landfall in Taiwan by Wednesday before finally leaving the Philippine area, local officials indicated. Despite this, Badrina emphasized the low chance of Podul directly impacting the country.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon, known locally as habagat, continues to influence weather patterns. It is bringing overcast skies and rain showers to western Luzon, particularly in the Ilocos Region, Batanes, and Babuyan Islands. The rest of the Philippines will mostly experience warm weather with isolated afternoon and evening rain showers or thunderstorms.
Warnings and Safety Precautions
At present, no gale warnings have been issued for any coastal areas, assuring residents that sea conditions remain stable. However, the public is advised to stay updated on weather developments as conditions can change rapidly.
