Massive Shabu Recoveries in Cagayan’s Coastal Waters
TUGUEGARAO CITY — The total street value of shabu recovered from the coastal waters of five Cagayan towns has soared to nearly P500 million. This staggering figure comes from ongoing laboratory analyses confirming the amount of crystal meth seized.
According to local officials, the largest haul was intercepted in Claveria last week, valued at an estimated ₱340 million. Another significant catch in Gonzaga was worth ₱102 million, adding to the mounting total.
Additional Seizures Across Cagayan Towns
Smaller but notable finds include a sack containing 400 grams of shabu discovered in Santa Ana on June 17, valued at around P2.7 million. Meanwhile, authorities also recovered a stash in Sta. Praxedes worth approximately P5.1 million.
Project SPIES Uncovers Chemical Precursors
Operations under Project SPIES (Strengthening Port Interdiction to Enhance Security) led to the discovery of a plastic gallon container in Sitio Mingay, Barangay San Julian, Sta. Praxedes. Marked with “3H1/Y1.8/100/20 CN/C290518,” the container is suspected to hold Controlled Precursors and Essential Chemicals (CPECS), essential substances used in producing illegal drugs like shabu.
The container contained 6.7 kilos (or six liters) of liquid and was immediately handed over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency – Cagayan Valley Region for thorough chemical analysis.
Authorities Seek Long-Term Solutions
A provincial police director emphasized the need for sustained efforts beyond short-term raids. “We are pushing for a long-term solution—not just short-term operations—and we can achieve this with the cooperation and support of the people of Cagayan,” local leaders said.
These ongoing maritime operations demonstrate the commitment of authorities to curb the drug menace and protect communities along Cagayan’s coastlines.
