Massive Shabu Worth P10B Seized off Zambales Coast
Authorities successfully intercepted a massive shipment of suspected shabu worth P10 billion off the coast of Zambales early Friday morning, the Philippine Navy confirmed. This drug bust marks one of the largest seizures in recent history, highlighting the ongoing battle against illegal substances in Philippine waters.
According to Navy spokesperson Capt. John Percie Alcos, the confiscated drugs weighed approximately 1.5 tons. The seized shabu will soon be transferred to the Naval Operating Base in Subic for proper documentation and further investigation.
Joint Forces Lead the Historic Drug Seizure
The operation was carried out through a coordinated effort between the Northern Luzon Naval Command and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA). Capt. Alcos emphasized that this seizure represents a significant milestone in the Navy’s support of the national government’s campaign against prohibited drugs.
“This is one of the largest illegal drug apprehensions in the history of the Philippine Navy in support of the national government’s campaign against prohibited substances,” the Navy official stated.
Following a Pattern of Coastal Drug Finds
This major interception follows recent reports of shabu being discovered in the waters near various coastal provinces. Earlier in June, authorities received over 60 tons of suspected drugs from fishermen in the Ilocos Region and Central Luzon, with a total estimated value of P8.8 billion, local sources noted.
The continuous discovery of shabu in maritime areas signals the persistent efforts of drug syndicates to smuggle narcotics through the seas. However, the successful joint operations by the Navy and PDEA demonstrate the government’s strengthened vigilance and capacity to combat illegal drug trafficking.
