Shooting Incident on Election Day in Lanao del Sur
On Election Day, a tragic shooting incident unfolded in Barangay Rinabor, Bayang, Lanao del Sur. A candidate for municipal councilor and the brother of a barangay chairman were fatally shot, sending shockwaves through the community.
The Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office identified the victims as Afganie “A’Luv” Balt Taha and Walid Balt Taha. Around 8 a.m., the two were heading to Mauyag Papandayan National High School to cast their votes when an unknown gunman opened fire.
Authorities Respond and Ongoing Investigation
Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO BAR) spokesperson Police Lieutenant Colonel Jopy Ventura shared that the victims were rushed to a hospital but were declared dead on arrival. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear as authorities continue their investigation.
Meanwhile, Lanao del Sur Police chief Police Colonel Robert Daculan expressed his sympathies to the families affected by this heartbreaking event. “Ating paigtingin ang imbestigasyon sa insidenteng ito upang matukoy kung sinuman ang suspek at makamit ang hustisya,” he urged.
