Siargao Airport Expansion Project Commences
MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Transportation (DOTr) recently broke ground on the Siargao Airport expansion project in Surigao del Norte. This effort centers on the construction of a new passenger terminal building designed to improve the airport’s capacity and passenger comfort.
The Siargao Airport expansion project aims to significantly increase the pre-departure seating capacity from the current 200 seats to 750 seats. This will help accommodate the growing number of visitors traveling to the island.
Enhancing Passenger Experience and Convenience
Along with the increase in seating, the new terminal will feature six additional check-in counters. This addition is intended to reduce congestion and streamline passenger flow, making travel more convenient for both locals and tourists.
Transport Secretary Vince Dizon emphasized, “In this terminal, our priority is the comfort of our visitors. We can see that it’s overcrowded here in Siargao and that our visitors experience a lot of difficulty on a daily basis, so we have to address that first.”
Project Timeline and Livelihood Boost
The DOTr expects the expansion project to be completed within eight months. This timeline reflects the urgency to improve airport facilities ahead of the increasing tourism demand.
Moreover, the department highlighted that the expansion is part of broader efforts to stimulate livelihood opportunities in Siargao. Local business sectors and communities are hopeful that improved airport infrastructure will bring more visitors and economic benefits to the area.
