Siquijor Electricity Supply Restored After Power Crisis
The electricity supply in Siquijor has been fully restored, ending days of rotating brownouts that disrupted daily life. The National Electrification Administration (NEA), following President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive, successfully stabilized power in the province. This swift recovery has brought relief to thousands of families, businesses, and schools affected by the ongoing outages.
President Marcos set a firm deadline of June 15 for restoring a stable power supply in Siquijor. In response, NEA Administrator Antonio Mariano Almeda acted promptly to resolve the crisis without delay. Authorities expedited repairs on the power generation equipment of the Siquijor Island Power Corporation (SIPCOR), ensuring a quick turnaround.
Key Measures That Restored Siquijor Electricity Supply
To secure a reliable power source, NEA coordinated the transport and installation of a generator from the Palawan Electric Cooperative (PALECO). Alongside additional rental generators from SIPCOR, these efforts significantly bolstered the province’s power capacity.
Malacañang reported that these combined actions resulted in a dependable capacity of 11 megawatts (MW), comfortably exceeding Siquijor’s peak demand of 9 MW. Moreover, a 1.65 MW reserve capacity was set aside to handle any unexpected power needs or contingencies.
Strong Presidential Directive to End Energy Crisis
Back on June 11, during his visit to Siquijor, President Marcos warned SIPCOR to resolve the energy issues within six months. He emphasized that failing to deliver a permanent solution was not an option. This warning came amid weeks of blackouts and rotating brownouts, where residents experienced power for just two to five hours daily.
Local leaders noted how the community welcomed the restoration of stable electricity. This development marks a critical step toward normalcy and economic recovery on the island.
