Tragic Discovery in Ifugao River
ALFONSO LISTA, Ifugao — The body of a six-year-old boy found dead in Ifugao river was recovered Thursday morning, local authorities reported. The young child had been missing since Tuesday after a swimming accident in Banaue town.
Officials said the boy slipped while trying to step from one rock to another in Sitio Imbiya-ag, Barangay Cambulo, as he swam with friends. Despite efforts, the strong current swept him away, and his companions were unable to rescue him.
Search and Recovery Efforts
Search-and-retrieval teams, composed of police officers, firefighters, local government officials, disaster risk reduction personnel, and community volunteers, combed the river for nearly three days. Their dedication paid off when they found the child’s body caught between rocks around 10:50 a.m.
Authorities immediately transported the remains to a funeral home for embalming. The body was later turned over to the family to begin the wake and mourning process.
Community Response and Safety Reminders
Community members expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, urging vigilance around rivers and bodies of water, especially for young children. Local leaders noted the importance of supervising children during recreational activities near natural water sources to prevent similar incidents.
As the family mourns their loss, officials continue to remind residents to exercise caution and promote water safety awareness in the region.
