Smooth Opening of Classes in Ilocos Norte Schools
The smooth opening of classes in Ilocos Norte’s 364 public elementary and high schools marked a positive start for the academic year, local leaders noted. This smooth opening of classes is a result of close coordination between the Department of Education (DepEd) and community partners, ensuring a safe and successful launch.
Valerie Talamayan, the designated information officer for the DepEd Schools Division of Ilocos Norte, shared that the first day went peacefully with strong support from local government units, barangay officials, and the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA). “We have our strong partners in the community like the local government units, barangay officials, and the PTA members helping out in the schools,” she said.
Enrollment Progress and Community Involvement
As of Monday morning, the division recorded 67,899 enrolled learners out of the 85,133 targeted students. Enrollment is ongoing until Friday, so these numbers are expected to increase. This steady progress highlights the community’s commitment to education.
At Eladio V. Barangay Memorial Elementary School in San Nicolas, school principal Dr. Rolen Oracion welcomed students with a lively song and dance performance by teachers. After orienting learners on school policies, school supplies and secondhand clothes generously donated by families from Hawaii, United States, were distributed to selected beneficiaries. “We look forward to a year filled with learning, creativity, and achievement,” Oracion expressed.
Positive Start in Other Schools
Similarly, Noralyn dela Cruz, principal of Laoag Central Elementary School, reported that their opening day proceeded without any issues. Teachers at Salanap Elementary School in Pinili town eagerly resumed interactive classroom discussions right after the flag-raising ceremony and a brief welcome program.
Principal Aileen Rambaud thanked parents and community partners for their support. “Thank you so much to our parents and community partners for preparing our school and for generously sharing their blessings for our learners,” she said.
The collective effort of educators, parents, and local officials ensured a smooth opening of classes, setting a positive tone for the months ahead.
