Sofronio Vasquez to Lead National Anthem at SONA
MANILA, Philippines — Award-winning tenor Sofronio Vasquez has been selected to perform the Philippine national anthem at President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s fourth State of the Nation Address. This choice highlights the administration’s goal to blend tradition and excellence in this year’s SONA ceremony, officials said.
Vasquez’s role in singing the national anthem symbolizes a tribute to Filipino talent and pride. The anthem sets a solemn and inspiring tone for the President’s annual address before lawmakers, government leaders, foreign guests, and millions of Filipinos worldwide.
Celebrated Filipino Talent Chosen for SONA
Born in Misamis Occidental and now based in the United States, Vasquez gained international recognition as the first Filipino and first male Asian to win the American talent show “The Voice” Season 26. Before his breakthrough on the global stage, he was a finalist on the Filipino singing contest “Tawag ng Tanghalan” in 2017 and later secured third place in its 2019 all-star edition.
Since then, Vasquez has performed on both local and international platforms, earning a reputation as one of the country’s finest vocalists. His selection to lead the national anthem at the SONA highlights the celebration of Filipino artistry and national pride.
Anticipation Builds for President Marcos’ Fourth SONA
During a recent press briefing, Palace spokesperson Undersecretary Claire Castro declined to reveal details about the content of President Marcos’ upcoming SONA, scheduled for July 28 at the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City.
“But right now, the President is preparing his Sona. He himself is the one studying the content of his Sona,” she said. The address is expected to highlight key accomplishments, policy priorities, and future plans to improve the lives of Filipinos.
