Community and Soldiers Unite to Seize Explosives
In a decisive move against insurgent threats, soldiers seized 16 improvised bombs in Tboli, South Cotabato, officials reported. The discovery, made possible through the help of civilians, highlights the growing community support against violence and terrorism.
Lt. Col. Erikzen C. Dacoco, commander of the 105th Infantry Battalion, shared that residents and members of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit Active Auxiliary alerted authorities to anti-personnel mines found abandoned in Sitio Bagong Silang, Barangay Maan, on the afternoon of August 20.
Army Experts Secure Dangerous Explosives
Bomb disposal specialists promptly recovered the homemade devices, which are now securely held by the military. These explosives were reportedly fabricated by remnants of communist New People’s Army (NPA) rebels operating under Guerrilla Front 72 in the area.
Brig. Gen. Michael A. Santos, commander of the 603rd Infantry Brigade, commended the swift response of the infantry and the vigilance of civilians who quickly informed authorities. “We foiled a possible devastation by lawless elements with the discovery of these weapons,” he stated.
Local Communities Show Growing Resistance to Violence
“The timely tip from civilians is an indication the locals are tired of violence and are now helping the government put an end to terrorism,” Brig. Gen. Santos added. This sentiment reflects a shift as community members increasingly collaborate with the military for peace and security.
Military Leaders Praise Soldier-Community Cooperation
Maj. Gen. Donald Gumiran, commander of the 6th Infantry Division, described the operation as a victory not only for the government but also for the people of Tboli who have long desired peace. “This is the result of soldier-community collaboration, I hope it can be sustained in Tboli and replicated in other areas where remnants of communist rebels still exist,” he said.
The combined efforts of civilians and soldiers underscore the importance of unity in combating insurgent threats and fostering lasting peace in South Cotabato.
